Washer and Dryer Savings
Maybe you've always lived with a washer and dryer and you don't give them a second thought. But washers and dryers have really only been with us for a few decades. They've revolutionized how we live our lives; we have more time (and more clothes!) as a result of these handy devices.
If you don't have a washer or dryer, you need to go to the laundromat to do your washing. While not as time consuming as washing clothes by hand as our ancestors did, it can still be annoying to spend an afternoon or evening literally watching your clothes dry. Assuming you do at least four loads a month, that probably runs you $10-12 per month, depending on how much your laundromat charges. If you live alone, it might not seem worth the money to obtain a washer and dryer; however, if you have a family or roommates, the household load would probably be more like 12-20 loads per month, or up to almost $60 per month.
In a year, or a bit more, you could easily have bought a washer and dryer. In the long run, you'd save money (not to mention time and convenience) by purchasing a washer and dryer. Bear in mind that front-load washers are the most efficient in terms of energy efficiency and water use. If the cost of buying both at once is daunting, one option to consider is buying the washer first and air-drying your clothes by hanging them on a drying rack. Sometimes you can save substantial money on a washer and dryer purchase with coupons or special deals.
Once you do, you can spend Thursday night watching your favorite TV or having your friends over to dinner, while your laundry does itself...unwatched.
