Ways of protecting garage floors
Garages have long been the domain of men. After all we keep our cars there, store our tools there, and perform many of the tasks that keep our homes running there. That is why there is an entire industry devoted to protecting and maintaining garage floors. And men are very happy for it.
New homes are built with garage floors that are nothing more than bare concrete slabs, which while durable, are also stark and not very attractive. Garage floors also take quite a bit of stress from our cars. Protecting the floor from spills, and dirt is important for the life of the garage floor, and can also maintain the value of your home.
Applying an acrylic sealer to the concrete can help resist the damaging effects of the elements. The sealer does supply protection, however it does nothing for the appearance of garage floors. If looks are important, then perhaps you might want to paint your floor with an epoxy paint. Epoxy paints come in a variety of colors and can add the look of an automobile showroom to your garage floor. However, the preparation needed to apply epoxy paint is extensive.
A less labor intensive method of protecting garage floors, would be to lay out a rubber or vinyl parking mat. These parking mats are easy to apply, require no adhesive, and do a good job of protecting garage floors from spills, moisture and dirt.. An alternative to parking mats would be interlocking floor tiles. These tiles come in many different styles and colors, are very attractive and are also extremely easy to install. An added bonus to these tiles is how easy they are to clean. You can just pick them up hose them down and replace it in minutes. In addition if one tile becomes damaged, it can be easily replaced.
