A Recipe for Painting Kitchen Cabinets
The kitchen is the place where a family gathers. Many memorable incidents of first cookies to first in-house dinner dates are attached to this place.
But if your kitchen’s old, grungy cabinetry makes you feel drab and dull, it will make every cooking task depressing. However, changing your kitchen cabinets can be cost prohibitive for many people.
The easiest way to a quick, cheap upgrade is painting your kitchen cabinets with your favorite hues. In fact, you can create your own signature kitchen. It's amazing how much better the right color combination can make you feel as you go about those kitchen chores.
Ingredients
Before painting kitchen cabinets, it is advisable to collect some items before hand to avoid delay or mess. You will need some pieces of clean cloth, bucket, screwdrivers to open the doors and hardware, sandpaper, paintbrushes, primer and paint.
Before you Paint your dream kitchen
· Test the color on a small part of your cabinet and let it dry to understand the exact tone you will get after it dries up.
· Remove the doors and hardware of the cabinet.
· Clean the cabinets with soap and water and dry them thoroughly.
· Rub the surface of the cabinets with sandpaper for the paints to stick.
· Clean the dust carefully using a barely damp sponge.
While you paint
· Take a deep breath and repeat, “Painting kitchen cabinet is easy”.
· Apply your primer with a clean paintbrush.
· If the doors are beveled, paint from the center. If the doors are flat paint from the top using vertical strokes for better results.
· Let the primer dry (Most primer will dry quickly, but wait an extra hour or two from what it says on the can to be on the safe side.)
· Apply paint of your choice and give a second coat after the first coat dries out.
After you paint
You'll want to start using your freshly painted personalized kitchen in a jiffy, but before letting that happen, make sure that the paint is absolutely dry. Moreover, before re-attaching your old hardware, think if you need to replace any. If yes, replace them, as too-old hardware in a newly painted kitchen might pull the show down!
