Industrial
First Aid Kit
An industrial first aid kit requires different
items than a typical household first aid kit. In many industries
accidents are a potential looming threat, and the severity of
these accidents are miles above what one may experience in a
typical household accident.
Due to the fact that many industries work with chemicals, solvents, and heavy
machinery, an industrial first aid kit needs to be customized and enhanced
to the specific industry and it's workers needs.
An industrial first aid kit
will contain items such as bandages, surgical pads and adhesive
tape, gloves, antiseptic, burn aids, and other items necessary
for your industries environment. The federal government has established
the CFR or Code of Federal Regulations.
The Code of Federal Regulations requires that an industrial first aid kit
be readily accessible at all times. This industrial first aid kit includes
first aid supplies that have been approved by a physician, personal protective
equipment. Personal protective equipment includes protective equipment for
eyes, such as goggles or eye washes in chemical and laboratory facilities,
protective equipment for the face and head, such as hardhats in construction
areas, and face masks in hospitals, labs, and even the protective shield
utilized by welders, and protective equipment for the extremities, such as
gloves and work boots.
The Code of Federal Regulations also provides that people in the workforce
will be adequately trained in distributing first aid and CPR procedures.
The success of any industry
rests on the fact that it provides a safe environment for its
employees. There are federal laws in place to make sure that
the American workplace is a safe and healthy environment for
all of its workers. Tragedies have been a part of America's industrial
past, such as workplace accidents and the danger of working with
chemicals believed to be safe, only to discover that they are
carcinogenic and the source of life threatening diseases.
It is imperative that all employees understand and practice proper safety
and health standards in whatever industry they work.
