The Evolving Tools of House Cleaning
Years ago, the average arsenal of house cleaning tools included such rudimentary items as brooms, mops, scrub brushes, and a few detergents. Today, there is a much larger assortment of cleaning products to choose from, and they are designed to make the process much easier and faster. These items range from slight improvements on traditional cleaning products, all the way to high-tech alternatives that can leave the person completely out of a particular chore.
In the kitchen, many of the old house cleaning staples have been replaced with disposable versions. Mopping the floor can now be done with a unit that uses disposable cloths, so that dirty water is thrown away, rather than pushed around the floor. Anti-bacterial wipes can be used to clean the counter, rather than the traditional sponge that can be a haven for microbes. Paper towels have replaced both sponges and hand towels in many applications, and advanced cleansers can make almost every job in the kitchen easier.
When the job is the bathroom, the improved house cleaning supplies include mostly sophisticated soaps and detergents that are designed to remove mold, mildew, and soap scum. The traditional toilet brush can now be replaced with one that includes a disposable head, eliminating the germs associated with the older style. With some of the new products, even a person scrubbing the shower has become a thing of the past. A unit can be attached beneath the showerhead that can automatically clean the shower after it has been used.
In other areas of the house, disposable wipes are available for dusting and one of the oldest house cleaning items, the broom, has been replaced by disposable sweeping cloths that make it easier to keep floors spotless. Where there is carpet, one can choose from an array of vacuums, from simple to complex commercial-grade machines. For the ultimate in convenience, there are even robotic vacuums, which a person can simply turn on, and watch as they clean.
Finally, even the house itself can help in the house cleaning duties. Fold-in windows remove the ladder from the equation of cleaning the glass. Blinds encapsulated in the window eliminate the chore of dusting them, and central vacuums free the operator from dragging around a bulky machine. As time moves on, there are sure to be increasingly ingenious products, which will help to make house cleaning even easier, and perhaps, the human will be completely removed from the picture.
