Floor Lamps Provide a Soft Glow

Floor lamps are a great way to add to the style and décor of a room while lighting large areas and saving space at the same time. Floor lamps are designed much like table top lamps but have a larger base and a long post which allows for the lamp to be free standing. Perfect for rooms with limited surface area, floor lamps can add a soft glow to a room while blending in nicely with the decor. For example, full spectrum floor lamps arch at a ninety degree angle and have a flat, square bulb which diffuses light in much the same way as natural sunlight. Thought to reduce eye strain and fatigue, full spectrum reading lamps use fluorescent bulbs and are often adjustable to the perfect height.

Funnel reading floor lamps however, have a funnel shaped cone which concentrates the light onto the surface being read or crafts being worked on. Also adjustable, many of these floor lamps come with a movable gooseneck stem and can be positioned according to the preference of the user. Funnel reading floor lamps can also be found with multiple funnels to allow for more illumination of the room while still proving a concentrated lighting area.

Floor lamps can be the perfect solution to your lighting needs, but there are a few factors to consider. First, consider the flooring surface upon which the lamp will rest. Thick carpets may not provide a sturdy reliable surface for certain shape and size of lamp bases. Additionally, if purchasing floor lamps for hardwood floors check that the bottom of the base has a protective surface on it as to not damage the floor. If not, gluing a piece of felt cut to size will accomplish this end.
