Ceramic Floor Tiles Provide a Great Alternative.
Ceramic floor tiles allow for an alternative to wall to wall carpet and hardwood floors and have become increasingly popular recently in both new home construction as well as home renovations. Available in many colors, styles and sizes, ceramic floor tiles are available through home supply stores, flooring outlets and various hardware retailers. In addition to adding to the overall aesthetic of a room, ceramic floor tiles can play an essential role in heating passive solar homes. When allowed to receive most of the day’s sunlight, ceramic floor tiles act to absorb the heat from the sun’s rays and store it. Still cool to the feet during even the hottest hours, ceramic floor tiles release the absorbed heat slowly as night falls and the temperature drops.
Caring for ceramic floor tiles is relatively easy and will facilitate the long lasting durability and beauty of your ceramic floor. Regular sweeping and mopping will be necessary to prevent dust and grit build up while maintaining an overall cleaner home. However, care should also be taken to maintain the grout between each tile as well. Although not requiring a weekly cleaning, scrubbing the grout between ceramic floor tiles periodically throughout the year will keep it bright and clean looking, complimenting the look and color of the tile itself. Additionally, although the ceramic tile itself will wipe off, grout has the propensity to stain if exposed to certain foods or liquid dropped on the floor. If (and when) a spill or food accident occurs, be sure to scrub the grout thoroughly and quickly to prevent a stain from forming. Using a non abrasive bathroom and kitchen cleaner will accomplish this nicely without scratching the surrounding ceramic floor tiles.
Those considering ceramic floor tiles as an option should also be advised that although tough and durable, they can break, chip or crack as a result of a heavy or pointed object being dropped on them. However, given the physical nature of the different types of flooring ceramic tile is less likely than hardwood floors to be scratched or gouged.
